Deane Sinfonia was formed in 1980. and is an amateur orchestra whose members come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and playing abilities.

We are delighted to welcome Stuart Hicken as our new conductor from September 2026.

We embark on an exciting programme of music leading up to our concert on Saturday 12th December.

We would love to have some new members join and swell all of our string section but especially cello players.

We also have a vacancy for a 1st clarinet, horn players and trombonists.

Our first rehearsal in the Autumn term is on Monday 7th September in the Gym at Queen Mary's College, Basingstoke.

The orchestra plays a wide variety of music to appeal to all tastes and we often invite guests to perform in concerts, this includes solo vocalists, instrumentalists and choirs.  

We rehearse 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm on Mondays during the school term in the Gym at Queen Marys College, Cliddesden Road, Basingstoke, RG21 3HF.

 

John Fuller - CondUcting

Stuart Hicken has taken up the baton as conductor from John Fuller who recently retired having served from 1981 to 2026.  

John had more than 45 years experience as an orchestral conductor, and was for 20 years the Director of the Basingstoke Area Youth Orchestras and Choirs, conducting many concerts in the Anvil in Basingstoke, in addition to many other venues both locally and further afield. Over the years he has conducted many choral works, symphonies and concertos in addition to lighter music, and has worked with many top class soloists.
